01Shade, airflow, and materials work together with the local climate.Comfort begins before the switch.
External shade reduces incoming solar heat. Building form and openings influence airflow. Materials with thermal mass can absorb and later release heat.
A strategy suited to hot, dry conditions may perform differently in humid weather. Thermal mass needs an opportunity to release stored heat; natural ventilation depends on outdoor conditions.

Read research paper02A field can change through the seasons, within its rows, and across its layers.Diversity works across time and space.
Rotations create diversity over time. Intercropping creates it within a field. Trees and crops add layers. Thoughtfully managed combinations can support functions such as pollination and nutrient cycling.
Species may also compete for resources. The useful combination depends on the setting; diversity is not an automatic promise of higher yield.

Read research paper03Pearl, finger, foxtail, little, and other millets offer different crop and culinary possibilities.Millet is a family of possibilities.
Millets are a diverse group of cereals. Some are suited to dryland conditions; their variety can broaden both farming choices and the everyday pantry.
Suitability differs by species, variety, and place. Every millet is not equally drought-tolerant, and there is no universal water-saving percentage. Product and nutritional claims need specific verification.

Read research paper04Roots, fungi, bacteria, and soil animals are part of interconnected food webs.Soil is a living exchange.
As organic material is transformed, nutrients move between organisms and become available to plants. Soil life also affects the physical structure that roots inhabit.
Biological activity alone does not establish soil fertility or prove additional carbon storage. Local conditions and measurements matter; soil organisms also participate in greenhouse-gas emissions.

Read research paper05The structure beneath our feet influences what happens after a shower.Rain needs a way in.
Stable soil aggregates create spaces through which water can enter and move. Roots, organic material, and soil organisms help shape this structure. Compaction and surface sealing can interrupt these pathways.
Infiltration is not the same as water storage. Soil texture, depth, restrictive layers, and existing wetness also affect the movement of rainfall.
